Cannot Connect To Newly Installed Informix
A user on CentOS 7.1 with IDS 12.10.FC6 couldn't connect via JDBC, getting "informix@<client IP> is not known on the database server". Respondents suggested the connection was relying on a trusted-host relationship (no user/password in the URL) and pointed to /etc/hosts.equiv, ~informix/.rhosts, $INFORMIXDIR/etc/hosts.equiv or REMOTE_SERVER_CFG, and advised checking the server online log for error -951 (user unknown) vs -956 (user not trusted). 141 is the IP of the informix virtual machine.
Your login did not include password credentials so you are depending on a
trusted host relationship. Make sure that user informix is trusted on
192.168.206.141
from 192.168.206.1 with an entry in one of:
- /etc/hosts.equiv
- ~informix/.rhosts
- the file listed in the REMOTE_SERVER_CFG ONCONFIG parameter

did you setup a .rhosts file in the home directory of the user? or a global one. Is that the real URL you're using?
Without the user property, it will try to connect using the same user which
is running the client application.
In that case we need to get the error from the database server log.
For security reasons, the real reason is not shown on the client side. In
theory you should be having one of two errors (again, on the satabase
server log):
-951 The user does not exist
-956 The user is not trusted
Each error will have a different path for solution...
Please confirm you don't intend to use USER/PASSORD, and if that's the
case, pos the database server log message.

Hi Everyone, I managed to find the problem out. The problem was caused by me changing the parent directories permissions. During installation, it mentions that the directory should be 755 . This is the parent folder of the informix installation folder. So I chmod everything recursively, however, it results to this problem. So the real issue was wrong permissions on the file system. To fix, I just chunks the parent folder without recursion. Everything is now working. Thank you all!
In other words, your oninit lost the setuid permission and was not able to
retrieve the user details? Common issue.
