once we used odbc to connect to ids we where able to enter dblocale and client locale in the odbc string now via jdbc the rules are differnt and we can not get proper connection to the db does anyone know where to change it
You need to pass them as connection properties.
for example
"jdbc:informix-sqli://123.45.67.89:1533/testDB:
INFORMIXSERVER=myserver;user=rdtest;password=test;DB_LOCALE=ja_jp.sjis;CLIENT_LOCALE=ja_jp.ujis"
Refer to Informix JDBC Programmers guide for further
details.

thank you very much it works fine in regular connections my problem is that i want this connection to work via "office connect 4" which works fine via office 2000 but in office 2003 gives me only the first record by the way when dealing with a DB who does not need locales configuring there are no problems at all
