Select first with rownumber ?

Hello NG, i try to write a query, which get a select with the rownumber. such as " select first 10 *, rownumber from table order by value " I want to have the following result : a, 1 b, 2 c, 3 d, 4 e, 5 Everytime i want the number 1 to count of first. This must be in an sql select statement without any procedure. How can i do that ? Thanx for help. Hendrik
