Must be a DBSA to run this program

Help !!! I've not long started out on my journey as a DBA, just a few weeks in fact. I had managed to install 7.21 UD4 with no problems and get the server to on-line mode when disaster struck. I found out that we didn't have a driver that supported this rev of OnLine with our development tool (Uniface), and that one would not be available in the foreseeable future, so the only option was to go back a rev to one that we knew would work, that being 7.12.UC1. I have now been given the task of setting Informix 7.12 UC1 on a DataGeneral DG Aviion 8500 running unix 4.11 MU01. Having done onmode -b 7.10, I managed to install all the products sucessfully, but when I initilize the server, at the end of Initialization, a message states that I must be a DBSA to run this program. I checked the permissions on all the files in the Informix directory, and they seemed ok, so then tried again, and still same message, so at the command line I tried an oninit -i, and message returned from unix UX:sh: ERROR oninit : Not found.
