Re: Error 458 Long transaction aborted.

>I have a trigger (delete a table) and when it runs I have an error 458 LONG >TRANSACTION ABORTED (Only when the trigger wants to delete more than 26 >records). The "Finderr" utility (on Unix) or Programs/Informix/Informix Find Error (in my Windows installation) yields the following: "The database server (probably OnLine or INFORMIX-OnLine for NetWare) ran out of log space in which to record this transaction. A transaction that is not fully recorded cannot be rolled back. To preserve database integrity, the operating system ended the transaction and rolled it back automatically. All changes made since the start of the transaction have been removed. Terminate the application, and replan it so that it modifies fewer rows per transaction. Alternatively, contact the OnLine administrator to discuss increasing the number or the size of the logical logs. Be prepared to talk about the number of rows being updated or inserted and the size of each row." Did you check that utility? I posted a recommendation just today with this same advice (and more) to comp.databases.informix which you may also have seen. If not, you should subscribe and read it--there is a lot of good stuff mixed in amongst the spam and flames. Finally, (my favorite) TFM has a specific index entry on Long Transactions: Informix-OnLine Dynamic Server Administrator's Guide Version 7.2, Volume 1 Page 22-18 "Avoiding Long Transactions" It has several sub-headings such as "Factors That Influence the Rate at Which Logical-Log Files Fill" and "Setting High-Water Marks." That should give you a total of about eight things to do. Have fun! ;) ______________________________________________________ Clem Akins (aka clema@informix.com) Informix Software, Inc (Standard disclaimers apply) International Technical Support Last seen: Sunburned on a Filipino Lahar
