So far > the only thing that has worked was to run the data file through a script > to replace every TAB character with a pipe(|) character, and then load > the resulting file. this is a standard scenario, although i'm not sure why setting DBDELIMITER didn't work. are you sre that it really was set to a tab? how did you set it? took me a bit of playing around, but i finally got it to work with: setenv DBDELIMITER '^V<tab>' so first the quote, then cntrl-v, then hit the tab key, and then the second quote. that should work. we routinely get about 4gb of data in 20 files with no delimiters at all. we know the count of each field, so we have an awk script that grabs the first 10 characters in the file, writes it to a new file, then a '|' symbol, then grabs the next 13 characters, (or however big the fields are). anyway, the above worked for me... mickm
