Follow-up: CPU poll threads ...
Posted in 1998
Would you please describe the difference between NET VPs and CPU VPs? And
why is one better than the other?
TIA.

It means that the number of connection names of a particular class
times the number of poll threads specified in the corresponding NETTYPE
entry, which specifies CPU VP listeners, is greater than the number of
CPU VPs and so additional NET VPs were started up to handle the extra
required listener threads. CPU VPs can each run only one poll thread.
There for if you have:
sqlhosts:
server_n onipcshm myhost service_3
alias_1 onipcshm myhost service_4
alias_2 ontlitcp myhost service_5
onconfig:
NUMCPUVPS 5
DBSERVERNAME server_n
DBSERVERALIAS alias_1,alias_2
NETTYPE ipcshm,3,100,CPU
NETTYPE tlitcp,1,100,CPU
This specifies 5 CPU VPs but there are three server aliases (including
the servername). The first two are shared memory and the ipcshm NETTYPE
entry specifies 3 CPU class listeners for each which totals 6 listeners
so a NET VP has to be started up for the last alias_1 listener. Also
the tlitcp NETTYPE entry specifies class CPU but again all of the CPU
VPs already have a listener going so a NET VP is started for that alias
also.
