Hello ,
Iam doing a HDR for 2 informix servers on HP-UX :-
Informix Dynamic Server Version 7.31.FD6 -- On-Line -- Up 33 days 07:46:25 -
- 661824 Kbytes
But when I was doing a ontape -p on secondary server , it showed or asked me
"do you want to restore a level-1 backup ?" ...I gave an answer as "NO"
and after some time secondary server showed :-
"Fast Recovery" and the following in the logs :-
INFORMIXSERVER=ppcmaldagmxsv05(informix)/home/informix> onmode -d secondary ppcmaltcp
agmxsv05(informix)/home/informix>
agmxsv05(informix)/home/informix> date
Sun Jun 19 23:50:54 mal 2005
21:03:48 Physical Restore of rootdbs, logdbs, physdbs, wlthdbs, cometsdbs, wipl
otdbs, ntcdatdbs, lecdatdbs, cmtsumdbs, ntcenhdbs, pwlthdbs, logdbs1, phydbs1
Co
mpleted.
21:03:48 Checkpoint Completed: duration was 0 seconds.
21:03:48 Checkpoint loguniq 20766, logpos 0xb0c018
23:48:20 DR: new type = secondary, primary server name = ppcmaltcp
23:48:20 DR: Trying to connect to primary server ...
23:48:20 DR: Cannot connect to primary server
23:48:20 DR: Turned off on secondary server

My question is :-
1] when I do "ontape -p" [only physical restore], should the restore on
secondary leave the informix server in "Fast Recovery" Mode ?
2] Or after completing ontape -p , there are other steps to take the server to
"online" mode
Please let me know.
Did you register secondary server on primary (onmode
-d primary secondary_server)? If so what does primary server log shows (when
secondary is trying to connect to primary)?
-Ajay
After restoring the secondary using "ontape -p" you did the right thing to
switch this
server to secondary: "onmode -d secondary <primary_name>"
Now the secondary wants to connect to a "primary server".
You have to switch the Primary using "onmode -d primary <secondary_name>".
After this you will see: connected to primary server.
On the primary you will see: connected to secondary server. secondary server
needs logical recovery.
sending log xxx ....
and after a while: recovery complete. primary operational. At this point the
secondary will switch from
recovery to secondary (read-only).
