There is a shell script which has this capability. You can find it at the International Informix Users Group software repository--for free! The URL is: http://www.iiug.org/members/memb_software/archive/arch2disk Also, this topic has been discussed several times in cdi You can find these posts in the cdi archives, available also through the good graces of the IIUG. You need to be very careful, though. As you diverge from the archive methods documented in TFM, you may find yourself in a position where Informix support cannot help you. The new OnBar solution, available now in version 7.21, is the future of archiving. Learn all you can about it, and make it part of your upgrade plan. With any archive scheme, (it could be said with any scheme at all!) the proof comes with testing. As you implement your plan, be sure to actually perform all the steps necessary to restore the archive. While you are doing that, document them. This cannot be stressed enough. Then, have your most junior staffer perform the entire ritual using only your documentation. Good luck! ______________________________________________________ Clem Akins (aka clema@informix.com) Informix Software, Inc (Standard disclaimers apply) International Technical Support Last seen: Back at work in Singapore--the Lion City
