Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.

Varchar is no good. The column will truncate on insert at the first
NULL byte. However CHAR(251) will work the extra byte is to insure
that the first byte is not NULL in which case the engine will consider
the column as containing a NULL for that row. If you insert the key
with the same leading, non-zero, byte the key ordering and indexing
will not be affected.
