Concatenation Operator in 4GL

Hi, I have an SQL statement in a 4GL program: update summary set (person_name) = ((select first_name || last_name from person_table where person_table.person_id = summary.person_id)) And I can't pass the compiler! The "||" operator was detected as invalid characters. But this SQL statement works fine using dbaccess. I did not find any restriction on concatenation operators in 4GL. Could you help? Any work arround? TIA Wendy
