Online 5.0, SCO Open Server 5 and DPT SmartRaid IV

I was wondering if anyone had any experience using Online 5.0 on an SCO system with a RAID subsystem. More specifically, an SCO Open Server 5 OS with a DPT SmartRaid IV. I don't have any experience with RAID systems (yet) and I am concerned about performance and reliability. Which would be better for performance - RAID 1 or 5? My reliability concern centers on the caching method of the controller and database consistency. Our database systems range from 4Gig to 24Gig depending on the projects we are running. To date we have been gambling with a non-RAID system with large drives and daily backups. No doubt that I have had to restore a database or two once or twice. I have been lucky the past few months (knock wood) but I would like to sleep at night. I have looked at a few RAID subsystems and found the DPT SmartRaid IV to be the best for the price. Now I want to know as much about the issues surrounding RAID and Online 5.0 before I commit to any decision. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. TIA Ron Major rmajor@moose.erie.net
