Read Ahead pages in 7.xx

Thank you. __________________________________________________________________________ Can anyone explain me the algorithm used for RA_PAGES and RA_THRESHOLD operation ? Let us take the example of RA_PAGES =60 RA_THRESHOLD=40 From the books and manual I understand that the engine reads 60 pages in one I/O operation ( what is the maximum number of pages per DISK I/O of HP-UX 10.20 ? ) and then the engine does another I/O of 60 pages when the engine completes reading the 20th page. In this case , what will happen to the remaining pages ( 40 old pages ) ? Will this be flushed from buffer and brought back again with another additional 20 pages ? or these pages remained in the buffer and the engine will bring another 20 pages in one I/O or bring another 60 new pages?
