Question about 4GL's verses C

Looking out over the vast number of Informix sites/jobs, there seems to be a lot of stuff written in C accessing informix databases(is this correct, or am I missing something?). I have seen some sites using 4GL's but most of the sites seem to be using C. Could ya'll send me an e-mail, saying if this is true and why. I am really curious why. Personally, it is easy/faster to develop in 4GL and easier to maintain, but I realize C is faster in execution and more flexible to work with. I will gladly entertain comments/opinions/etc you send me.
