Informix Zone going to MySQL?

Check out Eric's website. I'm not faulting Eric and I too have to agree with him. There's actually value in learning MySQL. First, its now Sun Microsystems' go to market database. (Sure they have JavaDB/Derby (RIP Cloudscape), but there are serious gaps in JavaDB as a general purpose RDBMS engine.) MySQL is going to get some form of retrofit to take advantage of Sun's Rock configuration. (Read more threaded in the engine) along with feature functionality that you can find in IDS/DB2/Oracle/etc ... It also looks like mySQL is going to get some sort of split personality. One for the OpenSource community and one with the advanced features that Sun would like to profit from. Again, pricing is going to be interesting... The other reason for looking at mySQL is that there is better integration with their NetBeans, Glassfish technology stack. (Sun Web Server too). Try doing a JSP/JSTL/ connection pool / jdbc connection with IDS. (POJO/EJB) different story. Thoughts on how to better integrate IDS with NetBeans?
