User CPU going 100% +! ;-)

Lack of information time here... We're running Online 5.02 under HP-UX 9.00 and today we noticed the following behaviour. Trouble is that it wasn't consistent for all processes and associated child sqlturbo... plus nothing in configuration has changed for a while (i.e. not coincident). Process starts.. possibly reads some data.. then goes to top of stack using >100% CPU (top) "ps" reports under "C" column "Processor utilization for scheduling." value of 255. "vmstat" shows context switching leaping up. "sar" shows the 100% usr as above. System grinds to halt... Now I know there's a lot missing here, but any pointers as to where to look, what might be going wrong? Anyone else had similar problems coming out of the blue.. One instance was an application program, but the other was a report running under "isql". Never seen before, never want to see it again..
