Decimal vs int across db platforms - Informix 7.x vs SQL Anywhere 5.5

I "inherited" a series of SQL scripts written by either DBAs or developers. Comparing the SQL Anywhere scripts to the Informix, tables that are to be created for SA set an integer datatype for a colmnn that will hold a Social Security number, for example. The Informix script will use numeric (no precision or scale)for the same column. I don't see the rationale behind using a different datatype on Informix since integer is supported. Could anyone shed some light on this ? Thanks JV Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
Hi! Informix integer is 4 bytes long. So is Sybase SQL Anywhere. You should be able to use this up to 9 digits. Just check what you have in real database (try min and max).
