Simple update question.

Pardon me for asking a stupid question, but ... When a record is updated with the SE 5.0 engine, is the data re-written to the existing record, or is a new record written and the old one marked for deletion/re-use? I don't recall seeing this discussed in the manuals, and the answer will determine the order of some weekly maintenance scripts. Thanks in advance, Jeff Cauhape
