Optimizing 4GL Programs

Hi, Can somebody tell me where can I find more about optimizing 4GL programs? Any web page, any book? I have read the IIUG's Informix FAQ, but no gain in this regard. Many thanks in advance. -- Regards, -- Ali.
o "Optimizing Informix Applications" by Robert D. Schneider, Informix Press o "Informix Performance Tuning, 2nd Edition", by Elizabeth Sudo, Informix Press o "Advanced Informix-4GL Programming", by Art Taylor, Informix Press o "Informix-OnLine Dynamic Server Performance Guide", Informix Press Pose *specific* optimization and performance questions in this group. I agree with Vic as to the usefulness of this book. Also note that MOST 4GL performance issues can be traced back to SQL calls which don't use indexes, merge tables without using indexes, etc. Always run with SET EXPLAIN ON and look at results... But Vic, 3 of the 4 books you recommended deal with the engine not the application. ;-) Yet I digress. Read a few books by Pike or Plaguer on good coding techniques. 4GL is a proceedural language and will benefit from the same techniques as if you were writing C. I haven't reviewed Taylor's book but I'd say just from the title its a better place to start. -Mikey Vic Glass wrote: > o "Optimizing Informix Applications" by Robert D. I agree. I've worked with Art Taylor during the period when he was writing that book. It is very good. He also has another 4GL book out. Check out Amazon.com and search for Informix they show MANY good Informix resources. Art S. Kagel > Vic Glass wrote: > > > o "Optimizing Informix Applications" by Robert D.
