help on forms using views?
Posted in 1993
I'm in the middle of a small crash project using Informix SQL to define tables and forms for someone else to later convert into a 4GL product. Everything has gone just ducky -- until now. I can do all the customary actions (delete, insert, update, etc.) when the screen is referencing the tables directly, but a mystery message appears and everything hangs up when I attempt actions on the rows selected under a view constructed one-for-one on those tables. I've checked everything I know to check, and even retain a faint and unhappy memory of once long ago seeing (and pondering over) this most expertly obfuscated message, apparently intended for original use in a dungeons-and-dragons script: "Someone else has deleted a row which is in your list." ..... I think I may even have come up with the solution way back when, once I figured out who "someone else" was, and just what "your list" consisted of, and how and why it should matter at all whether or not anyone else had or had not deleted a row from that list -- or from any other, for that matter. :-) I've tried to verify from the explicitly-written and extensive documentation offered by Informix that I am correctly construc- ting the views, and haven't yet found where I may be doing it wrong. Little solice there, I can assure you. :-) Any advice would be greatly appreciated, since I am now firmly stuck until I can get past this (probably stupid-me) problem. Thanks. -- ________________________________________________________________ bud@mtek.com ... uunet!m2xenix!mtek!bud ... bud@rigel.cs.pdx.edu MTEK International, Inc. Throughput Technology Corp.
