After OS upgrade, can't run database engine
Posted in 1997
We're running Unixware 2.1 and Informix Online 7.23.UC1 on a Compaq
Proliant 1500 server (Dual 200 MHz Pentium Pros ).
We just upgraded our Unixware from version 2.1.1 to version 2.1.2.
After the upgrade we cannot instantiate Online. The following message
appears in the "online.log" error file:
08:27:18 shmat: [ENOMEM][12]: out of available data space, check systemMAXMEM
08:27:19 mt_shm_init: can't create resident segment
I've checked the Kernel parameters related to Informix Online to make
sure that they are the same on the upgraded OS version as the previous
one. As far as I can tell, they are, although some of the Kernel
parameters specified by Informix don't actually exist in Unixware
(SHMMIN, SEMMAP, SEMMNU, NCALL, NPROC MAXUP) Also, as far as I can
tell, there is NO tunable called MAXMEM. SHMMAX, though, is set
properly.
We then removed the 2.1.2 upgrade, going back to 2.1.1 level, rebuilt
the kernel, then rebooted. But upon reboot, Online once again will not
come up (w/ previous level OS), and we get the same error messages!
Ugh!!
The only thing that saved our butts and keeps us in business is the fact
that I saved the original Unix kernel (before the upgrade) and am
booting from that.
Any ideas what is going on?
TIA.
