Try this... find / -name \\*.dbs -print -exec rm -rf {} \\; I think the real point of this question has been missed though (see above). Removing /usr/informix and all it's sub-directories may not be the answer if he wants SE removed before installing ONLINE. Blowing away the whole directory would also require reloading the tools.
