Format: PUBLICATION "Article Name" Summary of Article [Date, Location in Publication, Author] Informix in the News --------------------------------- (03/28/98) INFOWORLD ELECTRIC "Informix to Detail Java Plans" At the JavaOne conference, Informix will reveal its plans to integrate Java and Enterprise JavaBeans applications into the Informix Dynamic Server database. The Informix Universal Java Strategy includes four parts. The first will include a Java virtual machine in the database, enabling Java applications to run directly in the database server. The second uses a Java Virtual Table Interface to pull Enterprise JavaBeans applications from within the Informix Universal Data Option object-relational database extension. Part three will extend Informix Dynamic Server to function as a container for Enterprise JavaBeans, and for the fourth part, Informix will announce support for two standards, JDBC 2.0 and SQLJ, a SQL extension for embedding Java calls from within SQL commands. =20 (Paul Krill, 3/16/98) Additional coverage: INFORMATION WEEK ""Java Databases Readied =96 Informix, Oracle, Sybase to state plans, but full platform support still months away" In addition to Informix=92s Java strategy announcement, Oracle and Sybase= are also announcing plans to improve support for Java. Oracle plans to include a Java virtual machine and SQLJ in Oracle 8.1, due out later this year, Sybase is planning a broader test version of Adaptive Server Anywhere 6.0, which supports Java. However, Sybase has pulled back on plans to deliver versions of its other databases with Java support by mid-1998. Gartner Group analyst Betsy Burton is quoted saying that programmers will not find working with Java provides much additional code portability. The combined data warehouse program will enable corporations to leverage their information resources for decision-making. (staff writer, 3/19/98) HEALTH CARE SERVICE NEWS "Informix Leads Effort to Build Web Site for At-Risk Youth" Informix followed through on its promise to help create a new web site for the Coalition for Healthier Cities and Communities. Informix, along with five other companies, donated hardware, software, design and programming expertise to the Coalition to build a forum on the web for grass roots initiatives across the country to share ideas and programs for improving the well being of young people. =20 (staff writer, 2/9/98)
