CSDK Install Location
Posted in 2016
A user installing IDS 11.70 on UNIX found no CSDK components (no ifx_getversion, no esql) under $INFORMIXDIR/bin even though the "Typical" install claimed to include CSDK and JDBC. Responders confirmed CSDK normally lands in $INFORMIXDIR/bin alongside the engine, then established the user was actually installing a special interim patch build (11.70.FC7W2X5). The advice: such special/patch builds are often incomplete, so install the full base release (11.70.FC7) first, verify CSDK is present, then apply the patch over the top in the same INFORMIXDIR. The user also planned to contact IBM support; no confirmation of the outcome is recorded.

Hi, I am installing the Informix server version 11.70.FC7W2. I see in the installation it says the typical install includes the CSDK. Though I don't see it after the installation. Does anyone know where it gets installed? Installation Type ----------------- Select the installation type. Typical: Install the database server with all features and a database server that is configured with default values. Includes: ** Client Software Development Kit (CSDK) ** Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) Minimum disk space required: 700-800MB --001a11419974237bcc05293dde4a
Everything will be installed under the $INFORMIXDIR that you specified. I installed it in UNIX. Weird...I have checked a number of different versions of IDS, including 12.10, 11.70 and 11.50 and it is there. Maybe check the install log to see if there was a problem with the installation itself. Did it complete successfully? Have you got INFORMIXDIR set to the location you specified in the install? Do you have esql? That should be there is the CSDK was installed. If you do have it, what version is it, for example: esql -V IBM Informix CSDK Version 3.50, IBM Informix-ESQL Version 3.50.FC8 -----Original Message----- From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of Informix DBA Sent: Wednesday, January 13, 2016 3:19 PM To: ids@iiug.org Subject: Re: CSDK Install Location [36384] yes it should be there. Thank you Mike. I am actually trying to install the X5 patch version 11.70.FC7W2X5. I wonder if they might have left the csdk out of the special build. No esql there either. Yes confirmed that the INFORMIXDIR is set correctly. I will reach out to Informix support. BTW do you know if I can just install the CSDK in the same directory on top of the Informix server install or is it better to install it at a different location? It might be possible that the CSDK is not included in the interim releases for whatever reason. I would try installing 11.70.FC7, verify the CSDK was installed and then install 11.70.FC7W2 on top of it. -----Original Message----- From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of Mike Walker Sent: Wednesday, January 13, 2016 4:30 PM To: ids@iiug.org Subject: RE: CSDK Install Location [36385] Weird...I have checked a number of different versions of IDS, including 12.10, 11.70 and 11.50 and it is there. That might have something to do with it. Seems weird that it said that it would get installed, but perhaps that's an oversite. As for the installation - I like Andrew's idea of installing the 11.70.FC7 first - make sure that you have the CSDK, and then install the patch version over the top. It is normally installed in INFORMIXDIR along with the engine. If you have the esql script in $INFORMIXDIR/bin then CSDK has been installed. Art Art S. SPecial patch builds are often not complete and should be installed over the full version they patch. If you want the patch separate from your existing installation, you can reinstall the older release into the new INFORMIXDIR then overwrite it with the patch to get any updated files. Art Art S. Thank you Art and Mike. You are correct. As per Informix support the special builds are often not complete and it was an oversight or default text in the installation that says it is installing the CSDK. They said we could request the full build with the CSDK if needed. They will make a note to include the CSDK in future special builds.
