Bill, As much as I hate to say it, I think the normalisation police might have you "bang to rights" (Brit-slang for "guilty as charged"!). It's a = shame, but perform just doesn't do what you want it to in this case. Someone = who knows more about database theory then me (or maybe someone who was = sensible and stayed in last night) may be able to explain the reasoning behind = this. As far as I know, the only way around this is to have a child table with = the=20 items in, and use a master/detail relationship in perform. Then, each = item would be a separate row in the child table, and perform would have no = problem with the lookup.
