Definitely RAW. On some systems (notably HP) cooked may actually be faster, but this is a very foolish risk. If the file system is corrupted, fsck will have a fun time with your data. Using a raw device guarantees that informix will keep the data in continguous sections (unlike a unix filesystem which will scatter everything all over the disk wherever there's space). If there is any problem with the machine crashing or Informix crashing, the data is much more likely to be recovered correctly if you use a raw device, and the recovery happens automatically when informix is brought online (as opposed to having fsck ask you if you want to SALVAGE your data - hmm, to salvage or not to salvage?).
