The two functions are completely different. A level 0 tape backup is taken
to protect the Informix server against failure of hardware, OS, and can be
restored to the same system when required. The ontape format is BINARY. A
dbexport is taken to make an ASCII copy of a database. Whilst everything is
technically feasible there is no utility to do this and writing one would be
a major undertaking.
I guess from your email that you want to move a database to another
environment and can't restore from the level 0. Am I correct?
