Fair time Air time?

Not a technical support thread but a marketing gripe: the poster noted IBM issuing press releases for Cognos and asked when IBM last put out a PR piece specifically about IDS (Informix Dynamic Server), complaining that Informix success stories were stale. One reply pointed to the Informix Warehouse announcement made at the IIUG conference, and another supplied links to IBM's press-release search and a curated list on The Informix Zone. Reviewing those, the poster concluded only one or two releases per year actually focus on IDS. The exchange ended in sarcasm with no resolution.

Really? I didn't see that go across the PR wire. Did it? What about a success story? Just trying to find out if its all of IM or just those in charge of sales and marketing for IDS that just can't find a success story. I hate to say it, but that gaming company who decided to move off SQLServer and on to IDS is way too old now.

Did it? For fuck's sake, it was announced less than a month ago, to great fanfare, at the IIUG conference. > What about a success story? Well, bugger my toe, I guess no-one was smart enough to build an entire new warehouse in 3 weeks on a newly announced platform. Perhaps they should just all hire you or something. I'm sure you could have done better. > Just trying to find out if its all of IM or just those in charge of > sales and marketing for IDS that just can't find a success story. > I hate to say it, but that gaming company who decided to move off > SQLServer and on to IDS is way too old now. You can find all press releases that have at least the word 'informix' included thru this URL: http://www.ibm.com/Search/?sn=23&q=informix&v=16&us=utf&lang=en&cc=us&Search=Search On The Informix Zone I've made a list of links to press releases: http://www.informix-zone.com/cheetah-press I guess we might see another press release this year and next year IBM once again will tell us what an amazing job they did to market Informix :-)

I just did a look at the 10 latest PR pieces that mention Informix. Here's what I see... Hmmm. Ok. Here's what I see. #1) Not specific to IDS but mentions IDS as part of their 'cloud' partnership with Amazon. #2) Nothing to do with Informix at all. Don't know why it came up on the list when you can't find Informix in the PR piece. 3) PR piece on Informix Warehouse " IBM Unveils New Database Software to Help Clients Access Critical Information 50% Faster" on 05 Mar 2009: Wow,that's the first one that is specifically about IDS. #4-#9 mention IDS however IDS is not the key to the PR piece. #10 on the list? IBM Helps Clients Reduce Data Management Costs With New Informix Dynamic Server IDS 11.5 Addresses Growing Global Data Access and Availability Challenges Date: 28 Apr 2008 Hmm. I guess Eric is right. IBM will do one more piece focusing on IDS and then call their 2009 year a screaming success in terms of product marketing. Sorry OTC, for fucks sake. IBM puts out a lot on the PR Wire but one or two pieces about IDS in a year? For a product that until last quarter had 'double digit growth' qtr/qtr and yr/yr? Say it aint so! And one wonders why we question the veracity of IBM's sales and marketing folks.
