Raw device, partitions, chunk...
Posted in 1999
Hi there,
I install IDS 7.3 in Sun Solaris 2.6, and I am
confused about the disk config.
Please correct my mistakes:
1), disk partition = raw device = slice
1 raw device ( 1 partition) can have one or more
chunks, as long as the sum(chunks size) <= 2GB
so for disk c0t0d0, partition c0t0d0s6,
chunk number offset size
chunk1 0 0.2G
chunk2 0.2G 0.4G
chunk3 0.6G 1.4G
is correct.
So does c0t0d0s7.
2),
1 dbspace can have several chunks.
When initialized DB, I have rootdbs, offset 0,
size 0.2G in chunk1, but I can add another chunk
to rootdbs using:
onspaces -a rootdbs -p /dev/rdsk/c0tod0s6 -o 0.2G -s 0.4G
that will create the chunk2.
Also create New dbspaces1
onspaces -c -d dbspaces1 -p /dev/rdsk/c0tod0s6 -o 0.6 -s 1.4G
create chunk3 for dbspace1
and I can also add another chunk using partition c0t0d0s7
onspaces -a dbspaces1 -p /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s7 -o 0 -s 1.0G
create 1GB chunk for dbspaces1
3), someone said don't start with the cylinder 0,
is c0t0d0s0 the cylinder 0?
4), any complete example someone can provide me
with their disk config?
Thanks, please reply to sjsyau@yahoo.com.
