Neil If you've only deleted the data and not reorganized the table, then the table still "owns" the space and Informix still backs it up. You could try clustering an index on this table if you have the space, or unload it, drop it, create it, load it. This should free up the space and reduce the size of your backup. I have deleted a large amount of data from a main table in my application, then onubload/onloaded the database. I had expected to see the size of the archive drop substantially, perhaps from 1200MB to 800MB, but in fact the archive is not very much smaller.
