Re: Ellison bash at Informix

OK since you asked... :-) > ``I share the opinion that Informix cannot survive,'' Ellison said. > ``There is no way they can survive.'' > Oracle wouldn't be surviving on Oracle technology. They sell applications and the engine is a bucket of bolts. Microsoft sells a pooch as well. > ``It is inconceivable to me that any company making a fresh evaluation > between Oracle and Informix would ever choose Informix when it is > fairly certain there will be no Informix,'' he added. > Larry has been reading too many of his war strategy books again and is just taunting what he percieves to be the enemy. If Informix wasn't a threat he wouldn't have even commented. He is doing the job of being the salesman, and obviously has done a good job of it. Keep in mind Oracle went through a similar restatement scenario back in the early 90's. They wouldn't even be on UNIX without C-ISAM, which is of course an Informix original. And asl an Oracle customer if THEIR application stuff will work with other data bases. Using words like "inconceivable" and "fairly certain" and "no way" work on weak minded individuals who bought Oracle in the first place and are probably needing reassurance that they didn't buy total crap. Larry would do good in vacuum cleaner sales or car sales. Mr. Ed would be proud. :-) -- Tim Schaefer \\\\|// tschaefe@mindspring.com 6 6 -------------------------oOOo---( )---o00o---------------------- http://www.inxutil.com - My Ezine http://www.informix.com - Informix Software Inc. http://www.iiug.org - International Informix User Group/FAQ news://comp.databases.informix - Newsgroup for Informix Users ================================================================
