C-ISAM libraries now super-bloated!

For some years, I have been using C-ISAM as a convenient set of calls to access data which can then also be accessed by Informix 4GL. I can still remember when C-ISAM added something like 50k to each executable. As of v5.x, this size jumped greatly. As of v7.23, it's up to about 350k _more_ than the old versions. (This is on SCO.) Now, for a software company with around 500 programs in its distribution, that means that using C-ISAM v7.23 will add something like 175MB of pure space-consumption to the system. I realise that this is still not much in terms of todays hard disks, but it's still incredibly inefficient and totally unwarranted to have some programs than use C-ISAm triple (or more) in size over v5.02, which in turn had doubled their size from v4.00. Is there any way to use the more recent versions of C-ISAM and not link all the unwanted new "features" involving the mega-bloated GLS which we are never ever going to want to use? Has anyone hacked into the gigantic v7.23 library to extract the useful routines and put stubs into avoid loading the GLS-related routines? Informix's only suggestion is to keep using v4 or v5, which makes it rather ludicrous to pay for new versions and support! -- Craig Macbride <craig@glasswings.com.au> -----------------------http://amarok.glasswings.com.au/~craig--------------- Carla: "Yes, Captain, destiny is calling." We also manage a few apps which size from 100 to 300 programs running under I4gl 4.10 (SCO, AIX, HPUX). msiifr the binaries decrease from 150 Mb to only 20Mb. There is no loss in terms of performance and it provide a character-based mode or a graphical one without any differences in the source code. Last but not least, it's cheap and run under the new engine (Online workgroup and dynamic). > Informix's only suggestion is to keep using v4 or v5, which makes it un under the new engine (Online workgroup and dynamic). > Informix's only suggestion is to keep using v4 or v5, which makes it > rather ludicrous to pay for new versions and support! > > -- > Craig Macbride <craig@glasswings.com.au> > -----------------------http://amarok.glasswings.com.au/~craig--------------- > Carla: "Yes, Captain, destiny is calling." > Kremmen: "Tell them I'll call them back."
