How to write functions with HPL to escape some field separator ?

Hi Can any one help me out in sorting this problem? I am using HPL with Informix Online Dynamic server version 7.22.UC3. Before using HPL we with our own tools generate ASCII files for each table and this data may contain any character. We are using field separator as ^A (Control A) . But the data in ASCII Files may contain this control character. Because of this I am getting Problems in loading data ., result is I am unable to load data. Can any one tell me how to escape this character and how to load by writing some functions to escape this character ? If some one responds Immdly It will be a great help for me. Wishes Suresh
