sql and synonyms

netters, when i run the following agains a real table, it works fine. but when i run it against a synonym, i get an error stating that x is not a column: select pal_code[1,3] x, sum(net_units) from table1 group by 1; however, if i alter the group by to the following it works for both the synonym and the table. select pal_code[1,3] x, sum(net_units) from table1 group by pal_code[1,3]; any comments would be appreciated. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | . .
