Obviously neither does your database administrator. Informix does not
use its own passwords. Connection products that ask for a password are
passing it on to the host machine's OS so the passwords need to be
maintained in SunOS/Solaris by the System Administrator.
As to enabling users to your database you need to grant connect
permissions to each user or to 'public' or you need to create roles to
which you can grant group-wise permissions and add your users to those
roles. I hope your DBA gave you GRANT priveleges. The first two
methods would be:
grant connect to 'usera'; -- Quotes optional unless username has Upper
grant connect to userb; -- Case letters
-OR-
grant connect to public; -- grants priveleges to a generic user
-- this will work for everyone who does
-- not have explicit permissions.
Roles are new with 7.2x+, check the manual for how to manage these.
