Neither archive nor restore rewinds the tape -- they simply *expect* the tape to rewind, because they expect *you* to use a rewinding tape device, which should rewind everytime they issue a close() call. *IF* you use a non-rewinding tape device (not supported, but doable), when you finish your Informix backup, your tape will be at the end of the archive, and you can use it to back up your file system. This will probably work fine until you reach the point where the archive spans two tapes, and then you will have really BIG problems.
