Multiple customers on same machine

Help me think this through... We're going to have a database server that will be used by multiple customers connected via Frame Relay circuits. Each customer will use the same base set of 4GL code with some minor modifications, but the entire code set will be localized in separate customer directories. We're have discussions about how the database should be setup. The choices are: - Single instance of OnLine Pluses: - better resource utilization - easier archiving - continuouse archive of logical logs possible Minuses: - if the database crashes, all customers crash - restoring an archive in a catastrophic failure, restores all customer to point of failure. - Multiple instances of OnLine Pluses: - easier recovery (can restore archive for one customer) Minuses: - continuous archive of logical logs not possible - resource utilization grows dramatically with each new customer What are we not thinking about?... -- Clay Irving, N2VKG : clay@panix.com : Some mornings it just doesn't seem worth it http://www.panix.com/clay : to gnaw through the leather straps...
