Now that's funny. SAP is dropping support for Informix, yet they have an article on using compression in the latest version of IDS? Is 11.x even certified to run the latest version of SAP? Also the real problem with embedding IDS in a solution is cost. Unless you're selling a very expensive piece of kit, the cost of going with IDS could break the bank. Hows that for being short and to the point? > Date: Mon, 27 Jul 2009 00:59:56 +0100 > From: obnoxio@serendipita.com > To: informix-list@iiug.org > Subject: Informix Roundup: 26 July 2009 > > http://obotheclown.blogspot.com/2009/07/informix-roundup-26-july-2009.html > > The "slightly overdue" edition. > -- > Cheers, > Obnoxio The Clown > > http://obotheclown.blogspot.com > > > > -- > This message has been scanned for viruses and > dangerous content by OpenProtect(http://www.openprotect.com), and is > believed to be clean. > > _______________________________________________ > Informix-list mailing list > Informix-list@iiug.org > http://www.iiug.org/mailman/listinfo/informix-list _________________________________________________________________ Windows Live™ Hotmail®: Search, add, and share the web’s latest sports videos. SAP is certified on IDS 11. IDS 11 may not be certified to run on the latest version of SAP, however older versions of SAP are continue to be certified by SAP on new versions of Informix. So its great news if I am using SAP on Informix that I can make use of the new features in Informix.

And that's the rub, isn't it? With respect to any ERP vendor, you're forced to move to the newer versions because that's where they make the changes which comply to GAAP rules that change over time. It means that if you want to stay current on SAP, which you have to do, you can't stay on Informix. So keeping up with the latest versions of IDS doesn't do much except that it buys you a longer window to migrate off IDS. Sucks, doesn't it? Now don't just look at SAP, but also Lawson. I think Infor is the only ERP vendor that still currently supports IDS on their latest versions? What about Oracle's Peoplesoft? Look, I hate to rain on this 'good' news, but in light of the fact that SAP no longer supports Informix on their latest releases, its akin to giving a dying patient morphine to ease the pain.
