The selects can probably be helped by first doing a:
set isolation to dirty read;
SELECT blah, blah blah.....
There's not much you can do to help with the inserts, using the delete
statement you quoted. It'll probably be a lot faster if there is an index
on the call-date....keep it locked for less time anyway and less possibility
of contention.
You might want to write an esql/c program that creates a cursor with hold
and then deletes rows one (or several hundred) at a time. If you have my
Survival Guide, there's a sample of this (look up "flutter locks").
