I thought some of you might like to know the eventual outcome.
Well, shortly after posting this I experienced AFs and system crashes.
Informix Tech Support looked at various solutions, had me run several
onchecks, then told me that which we one-man-band IT departments dislike
most..."You need to reinitialize the instance!"
I devised a Plan, a step-by-step "idiot sheet" in case I suffered mental
blocks on "D-DAY", and had our Application Support people go through it with
a fine tooth comb.
"D-DAY" was last Friday. All went well, the System's running fine, no data
was lost and I took advantage of the re-build to do some Informix tidying up
along the way. All in all a very rewarding and confidence-building
experience, that has enhanced my knowledge of Informix no end.
