ODS concurrency question
Posted in 1997
Hi, All! I'm running ODS 7.21 on HP, and I'm trying to understand what my concurrent users can expect. I have a table on which I've set LOCK MODE to ROW. Users will be doing inserts. The behavior I'm seeing is that if one user is inserting into the table, **no** other user can insert until the first user is finished: USER1 USER2 ----------- ----------- BEGIN WORK insert A insert B insert C BEGIN WORK insert X insert Y COMMIT WORK insert D insert E insert F COMMIT WORK Depending on whether user2 does a SET LOCK MODE TO WAIT or not, s/he will either wait until user1 commits or will get an error return and will have to rollback then try again. After user1 is finished & user2's rows also get in, the resulting new rows in the table show first all of user1's inserts then user2's inserts: A B C D E F X Y Z I tried this on Oracle, and user2's rows were interleaved with user1's, meaning that user2 is able to also insert while user1 is inserting: A B C X Y Z D E F I'm guessing that I've misconfigured something in Informix, because the behavior I'm seeing is not concurrent, it's serial, and this *drastically* affects performance. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance! -- Wanda Beck
