IDS and tools with different INFORMIXDIR's
Posted in 2010
Topics: Server Administration, Networking & sqlhosts Configuration, Platform-Specific Issues
My environment in Linux Kernel: 2.6 Glibc 2.3
I have two INFORMIXDIR'S
IDS 11.5: INFORMIXDIR=/var/opt/ifx_ids11.5
INFORMIXSERVER=dev_net
INFORMIXSQLHOSTS=/var/opt/ifx_ids11.5/etc/sqlhosts
$ cat $INFORMIXSQLHOSTSdev_shm onipcshm penguin.fgss.com dev_dummy
dev_net onsoctcp penguin.fgss.com dev_srv
In: /etc/services:
dev_srv 20026/tcp # IDS dev
TOOLS:
INFORMIXDIR=/var/opt/ifx_732UC4
INFORMIXSERVER=dev_net
INFORMIXSQLHOSTS=/var/opt/ifx_732UC4/etc/sqlhosts
$ cat $INFORMIXSQLHOSTSdev_shm onipcshm penguin.fgss.com dev_dummy
dev_net onsoctcp penguin.fgss.com dev_srv
I have both $INFORMIDIR/bin's on my PATH:
PATH=/var/opt/ifmx_ids11/bin:/var/opt/ifx_732UC4/bin:...
$ type dbaccessdbaccess is /fitrix/ifmx_ids11/bin/dbaccess
When I set the TOOLS environment, running dbaccess gives:
Unknown error message 32370
I have done this many times. What might I be doing wrong ?
Hi,
INFORMIXDIR and PATH must match. You set INFORMIXDIR to IDS7, but your PATH
runs programms vom IDS11.
One solution for TOOLS (and for server environments, too): Always set
INFORMIXDIR and PATH:
INFORMIXDIR=.....
PATH=$INFORMIXDIR/bin:$PATH

Andreas

Thomas
In the TOOLS environment you should only have the TOOLS/bin in your
PATH while the IDS11.5 environment should only have IDS11.5/bin in the
PATH. The fundamental issue is that dbaccess is not a tool, it is part
of the engine in the IDS env. The appropriate tool to use in the TOOLS
env is isql (if you have it) else you always need to be in the IDS env
unless you are compiling 4GL (which, I assume, is why you have the
TOOLS environment).

Do you have both /lib subdirectories loaded into LD_LIBRARY_PATH?
