An open port with a base specification would probably serve the developer community much better. Such a spec would allow Informix to be installed on ANY of the current distributions. Wouldn't that keep the market more open? Wouldn't an "open Linux spec" allow systems builders to tailor a particular system to run the engine the best possible way? Enable a builder the ability to trim the fat and run a leaner faster system if they can tune it to spec, instead of forcing everyone to swallow an install based upon a single vendor solution. We already have that in Solaris, HP/UX, et al. > >(Disclaimer: I am a Debian user.) >Todd Graham Lewis Linux!
