Just make sure they're sized correctly. That works, if only one copy of the production database is running on the development machine. However, there is a tool by informix, that can be used to change the chunk names of a database server. Obviously, you will have to use the symbolic links when recovering from tape. But after using the tool, the links can be removed, so you can run several copies of one database server on a single machine. The name of the tool is tbmvchunk; as far as I know it is available for 7.2 and 7.3. To use tbmvchunk, a key (dependent on the date) is needed. We got the tool via SAP, and we have to contact SAP to get the key. But the tool itself is not dependent from SAP. Markus Reiter
