E.g. speed of memory in the machine, amount of cache on each disk controller, algorithm used within the disk controller to organise disk reads/writes (what do you mean do didn't know there was microcode being run on the disk controller and don't have the source code??), exact release date of the OS tape unsed to install UNIX (so someboy changed the source code to the disk device driver to fix a bug - you don;t think they actually change release numbers for these things do you? Oh you changed a line of code better call it Solaris 2.4 rather than SOlaris 2.3). People can only go on similar configurations as not all the factors are known. >Let more people participate and make the list more active instead of >pointing finger. > > >Weimin Yang >Aerotek Inc. Here, here - we are all techies and as such problem solvers. The best quote on the was from the film Rising Sun (shown the other day on British TV) "The Japanese don't fix the blame they fix the problem). We are all giving info out here from the goodness in our hearts, we don't get paid for helping others on the net. I don't care who you are I will help with techincal problems about Informix because I enjoy helping others - that's just the way I am. Don't knock people for trying to help. -- David Williams
