All of the 5.xx utilities are available, they were just renamed from
tb????? to on????? so tbmonitor became onmonitor. There are three
archive options in IDS 7.xx, ontape, onarchive, and onbar. Ontape is
fine and simple and highly improved over 5.xx (ex the engine no longer
hangs if a checkpoint occurs while waiting for a tape change).
Onarchive is an improvement but clunky, hard to manage and not reliable.
Onbar, which replaces onarchive, is better yet but you need to puchase
a third party backup package to interface with it.

No you do not. IDS 7.xx has networking incorporated into the engine.
If you define a DBSERVERALIAS or SERVERNAME in the ONCONFIG file that
corresponds to a network connection in the sqlhosts file then engine
will automatically start one or more listener threads.
You will probably need an updated version of Informix Connect on the
PC however.
