How can I make a full back up of my tables ? Informix (V7 onine) is installed on a raw device (D-Unix-) I tried to unload but restoring caused some errors. Thank You.

I understand that the Informix utilities dbexport/dbimport does this.
The data is unloaded table by table, and the tables definitions (DDL)
are saved. I use my own utilities to do this. But the idea is the same.
A table can be unloaded to an ascii file, and then loaded using the same
ascii file, *assuming the table definition has not changed*. What method
did you use??

Diverse errors are possible, so without knowing the specifics, its tough
to give a reasonable answer. Errors that I've encountered:
o long transaction due to logging being on (buffered or unbuffered). I
solved this by taking logging off during the load, then putting it back
on after the load. The ontape utility is used to do this.
o data no longer conforms to DDL - this happens when the table
definition of the unloaded data is different from the loaded data. For
example, just try adding a new column after unloading and see what
happens.
So, if you specify the errors, a better answer can be given. This sort
of reminds of me being on the hotline - you ask the user what the
problem is, he tells you there were errors - you ask what errors - he
says he did not write them down ....
