You need to do this in reverse order. First install IDS 9.21, Then restore your backup and finally upgrade to IDS 9.21. You should check that the OS support IDS 9.21 as well as 9.4. You can install both version at different directory and just change the relevant environment (you should set identical sqlhost and similar onconfig). Thank you for your help. We did it that way. Going back to IDS 9.21 on the new Server, restoring with ontape -r and updating to IDS 9.40. OS (SLES 8.0) supports both versions. F.
