Question re estimating table sizes
Posted in 1997
I am trying to estimate the size of some new tables we are adding to our system. However, I have concerns about the numbers I am getting from the formulas in manuals. As a check against these numbers, I have plugged in numbers pertaining to existing tables and checked them against actual page usage reports. Oviously, I have to take into account the fact that the existing tables change on a regular basis, with insertions and deletions. These are some particulars regarding one of the new tables. Informix 7.14 Sun SparcCenter 2000e, Solaris 2.4 Page size 2k Fragmentation of the table Detached, Fragmented unique index Row Size 83 Estimated Number of Row 22,000,000 1 Unique Index Column Size for index 30 If I understand the results correctly, the estimated number of data pages is 956,522, the estimated number of index pages is 543,212. Translated into disk requirements: Approximately 2 gig for data 1.2 gig for index(before adding additional disk space for growth). Do these numbers sound right?
