(5 Gig tape also). One possible solution: 1) Create a named pipe. Say, $INFORMIXDIR/archpipe. 2) Adjust your TBCONFIG file to write archives to the named pipe. 3) Write a simple C program which reads from the named pipe and begins writing to the first tape, then switches to the second when the first is full. To backup: 1) Before you begin your archive, start the C program in the background. 2) Start the archive. For unassisted backups a simple Bourne shell "here document" might work, or use TCL/Expect (or the equivalent) if you want more sophisticated error handling. To restore: 1) Start a C program which reads from the two tapes and writes to the named pipe. The following might actually be enough: cat /dev/tape1 /dev/tape2 >$INFORMIX/archpipe 2) Start the Informix restore. >If anyone can shed some light I would appreciate it. We did something similar for taking an archive, shipping it across the network, and performing a restore on the other end. It has worked well. -Dave. -- David Schmitt, Manager MIS Systems Voice: (708)538-4699 Motorola, Inc. - Land Mobile Products Sector FAX: (708)538-4638 1301 E. Algonquin Rd.
